Sepang, May 22, 2014 – When Donald Chung decided to do a bit of shopping at KL International Airport (KLIA) while waiting for his flight to Kuching, little did he know that his little indulgence will win him a RM1million shopping spree and a trip to seven of the most glamorous shopping cities in the world!

Thirty-two year old Chung who hails from Kuching is the Grand Prize winner of Malaysia Airports’ Indulge Till You Fly (ITUF) 2013-2014 Campaign.   As the Grand Prize winner, he will be indulging in an RM1million shopping spree at KLIA over the next two days.   He will then be whisked off to a 15-day trip to six other cities –Hong Kong, Tokyo, London, Paris, Milan and Dubai – for even more shopping and dining indulgence experiences!

Chung and his mother will fly business class to all the six cities where they will stay at five-star hotels and be chauffeur-driven to the respective cities’ premier malls– compliments of MasterCard International, the official card for Malaysia Airports’ ITUF 2013-2014 Campaign.

Said an elated and highly-excited Chung: “I have never won any contests and never thought that I could win!  When I was contacted, they didn’t tell me what I won so I thought I was going to be one of the monthly indulgers winning RM10,000.  Of course I was keeping my fingers crossed but never thought that I could actually win the Grand Prize!  This is unbelievable!  It is a dream come true!”

When asked which city he is most looking forward to visiting, Chung revealed “London”.   “I’ve always wanted to go to London as I’d never been.  This is a great opportunity to fulfill that desire.  The amazing thing is, I get to go not only to London but other dream cities too!”

Congratulating Chung on his win, Puan Faizah Khairuddin, Senior General Manager Commercial Services, Malaysia Airports, said: “Our theme for this year’s ITUF Campaign is ‘Wonderland’ and our fantastic ITUF Grand Prize is very much in line with the theme of the Campaign.

“It underpins the fact that airports are take-off-points to wonderful places where we can experience and learn lifelong lessons.  At the same time, airports themselves are places of wonders and indulgences.   Our monthly indulgers and Grand Prize winners can attest to that!”

Held for the fourth year, the ITUF Campaign is part of Malaysia Airports’ annual drive to raise awareness of the dual roles of its international airports – as transportation hubs and as lifestyle destinations.

Participants of the Campaign had to spend a minimum of RM250 at any F&B or retail outlets at the five international airports.   With that amount, they were deemed eligible to take part in the Indulge & Win Contest and entitled, automatically, to instant cash shopping vouchers worth RM10.  MasterCard holders were given the privilege to double their entries and shopping vouchers.

Shoppers redeemed their shopping vouchers on the spot at one of the 40 Indulge & Win e-kiosks located throughout the international airports – KL International Airport, Low Cost Carrier Terminal – KL International Airport, Langkawi International Airport, Penang International Airport (PIA), Kuching International Airport and Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA).

All they had to do is to scan the receipts of their purchases and key in personal details; answer a question related to the Campaign; and redeem their RM10 shopping vouchers on the spot.   Information captured at the e-kiosks was uploaded to an off-site server computer which randomly selected a Monthly Indulger prize winner of RM10,000 in shopping vouchers.

Seven (7) Monthly Indulger prize winners were selected throughout the Campaign period. Each Monthly Indulger prize winner would also be in the running to win the Grand Prize.   The Grand Prize winner is selected randomly by the computer.

The final month indulger winners for the month of February 2014 are as follows and they are amongst total 49 monthly winners for Indulge & Win Campaign 2013/2014:

Fetama binti Sedi, 53, a monthly Indulger winner from Kota Kinabalu, said shopping at airports give her access to quality items that are sometimes not available at malls in the city.  Her favourite to-buy items at airports are handbags and perfumes.

Meanwhile, Lee Zhun Keat, 26, also a monthly indulger winner from Selangor said he enjoys shopping at the airport as it enables him to enjoy savings when purchasing items like chocolates, designer bags and jewellery.

Commented Puan Faizah : “The traditional view of airports, more specifically KLIA, as a place to catch your flight is changing.  Today, we have travelers, their families and friends who have come to see our airports as a destination – a place where they can shop and dine.

“Through Campaigns such as ITUF, the position of KLIA as a lifestyle destination is further strengthened.  Strategically, it augurs well for our goal of increasing revenues from non-aeronautical sources and in changing the overall perception of airports as lifestyle destinations.”

“We will continue to come up with innovative and creative options; to give travelers the reason to make our airports the choice in their travels,” concluded Puan Faizah.
