SEPANG – KL International Airport (KLIA) will be carrying out scheduled overnight works on the Aerotrain system over a two-week period starting 18 August 2025, as part of ongoing efforts to further optimise the system’s performance.
These works will take place during non-peak hours (12:00 AM to 5:00 AM daily) to minimise passenger impact. During this period, Aerotrain service will be temporarily unavailable, and airside shuttle buses will be provided to maintain seamless connectivity between the Main Terminal Building and the Satellite Building. Travellers during these hours are advised to follow airport signage and guidance from on-ground personnel.
Malaysia Airports Managing Director, Dato’ Mohd Izani Ghani reiterated the importance of operational excellence, “We are proactively fine-tuning the Aerotrain system based on real-time data and ongoing insights gathered since its launch. These scheduled works are essential to ensure optimal system responsiveness, safety, and long-term reliability.”
KLIA is also investing in other technical enhancements such as the Automatic Vehicle Wash Plant (AVWP). The new AVWP to be commissioned on the track marks a first for the KLIA Aerotrain, replacing the previous manual washing method. It is designed to support long-term maintenance standards and strengthen technical upkeep as well as reliability in fleet care.
“These ongoing enhancements reflect our forward-looking approach to infrastructure upkeep and service quality. Together, these initiatives underscore our determination to deliver a seamless and dependable travel experience at KLIA,” added Dato’ Mohd Izani Ghani.
Other planned works include refinements to the signalling system, informed by operational data and train movement patterns since the Aerotrain commenced live service on 1 July. This is to further enhance system responsiveness and operational efficiency.
“Alstom is pleased to support MAHB’s effort to optimise the KLIA Aerotrain system. We will take this opportunity to conduct early testing of our upcoming signalling software update scheduled for September. While the update has already been thoroughly validated through simulation, this additional step reflects our proactive approach and ongoing commitment to excellence, ensuring the system continues to operate at its best,” said Sim Ooi Kok, Country Managing Director, Malaysia, Alstom.
Since the start of operations, the Aerotrain has transported over 2 million passengers, accumulated more than 1,100 hours of service, and completed 18,800 trips.
