Malaysia Airports Continues To Embrace Best Practices To Upkeep Transparency Of Business Processes

SEPANG– Malaysia Airports is strengthening its procurement governance by digitalising its processes on Lapasar, an e-market place platform. The implementation of an e-catalogue system through Lapasar is part of the organisation’s procurement transformation exercise in line with achieving its digital journey Airports 4.0. Through Lapasar, staff can make purchases online and manual documentations will be eliminated completely.

According to Ibrahim Chang Boon Teck, general manager of procurement, Lapasar will ease the procurement processes as Lapasar is a singular B2B online platform. He said, “Ever since we went ‘live’ on Lapasar early last month, our staff and stakeholders have experienced increased efficiency and convenience in both the ordering and tracking of items. They only need to speak to the Lapasar support team through online live chats online about the statuses of their orders. Lapasar also makes vendor evaluation much simpler as all forms have been digitalised and can be submitted online. Most importantly, Malaysia Airports will only deal with Lapasar on the items ordered instead of having to call and check with the various vendors. Apart from that, auditing will also be a breeze as no manual transaction is involved throughout the process,” he said.

Lapasar is developed by Tenderin, a local start-up company that specialises in supply chain solutions such as e-procurement, logistics, warehousing and payments. Chang added that by partnering with Lapasar, Malaysia Airports, as a aspiring service leader, aims to demonstrate best practices and showcase its commitment in providing a workplace that has transparent business processes, making it free of corruption and bribery, down to even the simplest procurement order of stationery supplies.

Apart from Lapasar, Malaysia Airports is also working on other initiatives to promote continuous governance in its business processes. They include a Whistle Blowing Policy and the set-up of the Corporate Integrity Unit (CIU), an independent unit headed by an officer that was seconded from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to look into possible breaches.

On top of that, the organisation is also pursuing the ISO37001:2016 Anti Bribery Management System (ABMS) Certification for its procurement and business contracting processes by the third quarter of this year. The organisation is currently being assessed by the Standard and Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia (SIRIM) for the final stage which is Audit Corrective Action.

Chang said, “The integrity of the company through its staff is not only important to protect the reputation of the company but also to gain the trust and confidence from potential business partners. Therefore, with the business controls and right measures in place and certified with ISO37001:2016, Malaysia Airports will be able to perform more efficiently as risk factors have been identified and can be eliminated right away.”
