SEPANG - Since the Movement Control Order (MCO) period took effect on 18 March 2020, there have been a few cases of stranded passengers at KL International Airport (IATA Code: KUL).  Some are due to the restrictions of the MCO, but some are also due to the travel bans of other destination countries.  These cases mostly fall into the following categories:

1) Transit passengers whose connecting flights to the destination countries have been cancelled; or
2) Foreign passengers who had left Malaysia during the MCO but were denied entry at the destination countries and sent back to KUL.

In these cases, Malaysia Airports will compile their details and forward them to the Wisma Putra and the respective embassies for their further action.

While at the airport, the airport community including the respective airlines collectively do whatever is within our means to care for passengers. Airlines will provide meals and these stranded passengers have the option to check-in to the transit hotel facility located on the airside such as Sama Sama Express KLIA. Sama Sama Express klia2 is currently closed for operations. Nevertheless, Capsule Hotel has allowed for the stranded passengers to use their facility free of charge.

This is a challenging period for the travellers due to the uncertainty of flight availability to various destinations as airlines are stopping services. The global priority is safety and curbing the spread of COVID-19. In order to avoid being stranded at airports, we would like to remind all passengers to first check on whether they are able to enter the respective destination countries prior to buying flight tickets. It is also important to check with the respective airlines on the availability of the connecting flights, and reconfirm the flight time as the situation is very fluid and there may be changes or cancellation to the flights.
