Wings Air Now Expand Their Flights to Miri, Malaysia

Pontianak - To continue sharping the connectivity also providing air transportation facilities to their loyal customers, one of the airlines under Lion Air Group's, Wings Air expands their business by opening new international routes.

After successfully flown their fleet from Pontianak to Kuching, Sarawak, Malayisa in January 2018, now the airline that provides flights with low fares is again expanded their wings to one of the cities in Sarawak, Malaysia that is Miri.

Wings air will start operating the route on March 15th, 2018 with a regular schedule, one flight per day which will depart from Supadio Airport, Pontianak at 15.30 and arrive at Miri at 18:20 local time. While the reverse flight will be scheduled to depart from Miri Airport at 18:50 and arrive in Pontianak at 19:40 local time.

“With the access from Pontianak to Miri also the reverse route, now the customers can feel the journey with a more efficient time, because the duration of the distance is only about 2 hours when compared with land routes that take about 16 hours. Not only that, the price offered is also quite affordable which for one trip only at the price of about 700 thousand Rupiah,” said Captain Daniel Putut, Managing Directior of Lion Air Group. 

Capt Daniel added, The availability Wings Air access from or to the capital of West Kalimantan, Pontianak, will certainly be a convenience for the customers, and certainly contribute more to the growth and economic development of the region by bringing passengers from abroad through Miri, both tourists and businessmen. Likewise for Miri and surrounding residents who will now have more options to visit Indonesia to various cities through Pontianak that could connect to Jakarta, Batam, Semarang, Surabaya, Balikpapan, Ujung Pandang, Bandung, Ketapang, Sintang, and Putus Sibau.

“Indonesia market is a very important market for Sarawak, both to Kuching and Miri as these two (2) cities can feed the market on their unique products, be it leisure tourism, medical or education purposes. For this reason, Sarawak Tourism Board is organizing the Rainforest WorldMusic Festival and the Borneo Jazz Festival in Kuching and Miri respectively to attract more Indonesian to visit. And now, we are very fortunate to have Wings Air to provide the direct air access into both Kuching and Miri”  Mary Wan Mering, Acting CEO.

Malaysia Airports managing director Datuk Badlisham Ghazali said, “We are very pleased with this new route to Miri by Wings Air. We are continually engaging with various airlines in our route development efforts and the focus is not just on KLIA. The smaller airports also play an important role acting as feeders to our international airports. This is also in support of the objectives of BIMP EAGA cooperation to increase trade, investments and among member countries. In fact, Miri Airport will also be undergoing expansion to 3 mppa capacity from the current 2 mppa. In 2017, Miri Airport handled 2.1 million passenger traffic movements."

“We hope this route could have a good passenger number (load factor), and we believe the possibility for future flight frequency per day can be increased so that could accommodate the high interest of passengers, especially on Pontianak route to Miri. This is also done to continue maintain bilateral relations between Indonesia and Malaysia as one of the developing countries, especially in Southeast Asia so that access can continue to grow so that it can connect well and effectively,” Captain Daniel Putut.

In operation, Wings Air will use their fleet of type ATR 72-600 which could accommodate 72 passengers. At the end of 2017 Wings Air has been certified flight safety management by an international auditor, IOSA, which makes the airline start operated in 2003 ago has been recognized the quality of safety and security of the global aviation.

Currently Wings Air has flown to more than 107 destinations both domestically and internationally with its frequency reaching 300 flights per day with a fleet power of 54 units ATR 72-500 / 600 which this year will increase about 20 fleets.
