SEPANG – At approximately 2.10 am Turkish time, Malaysia Airports' wholly-owned Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen International Airport (ISGIA) experienced explosions at the tarmac area of the airport. Two airline employees were reported injured in the explosions.
The police are on the site, checking and securing the airport area. The Aviation Security Council has also been alerted on the situation. The police are investigating the incident and the Turkish Government has heightened security within the vicinity of the airport, which includes helicopter surveillance.
"We are working very closely with the Turkish Government and our counterparts to facilitate the investigation, and we await their official report on it," said Dato' Azmi Murad, Executive Director of ISGIA.
ISGIA resumed normal flight operations at about 4.00 am Turkish time.
