KUCHING– We are deeply concerned about the rodent infestation reported to be plaguing the MASkargo warehouse at Kuching International Airport (KIA). As the premises landlord, we have taken immediate measures by engaging our pest control team to work closely with MASkargo who has been occupying the building since 1984. We have set up rodent traps as a quick fix while we work on a long-term plan with them. The tenant has also been advised to ensure that disposal of all food waste is properly done to prevent any future infestation that may spread to the other areas within the vicinity of the airport grounds such as the passenger terminal building.

We have also issued reminders to all our other tenants to ensure that they fulfil their responsibility as tenants and maintain the clean and sanitary condition of the leased premises by arranging for daily removal of all refuse and rubbish to avoid pest and wildlife infestation such as rats and monkeys.

We take hygiene and sanitation matters very seriously so as to avoid any occurrences of potential health hazards and unnecessary damage to goods and facilities by pests. In Kuching, we initiate monthly pest control activities at the main locations that are under our care such as the terminal building, central utilities building, engineering depot, Airport Fire & Rescue Services building, mosque and toilets.

We also have regular engagement with the airport community through the quarterly Airport Facilitation Coordination Meeting that gathers airlines and government agencies alike to address current issues. We would like to reassure all parties that we are always ready to provide support for the benefit of our partners.
