SEPANG – Malaysia Airports is pleased to provide the first update on the disrupted hydrant fuelling services situation at klia2. Subsequent to the emergency briefing with the affected airline, AirAsia X and KAFS, the operator for the fuelling aviation system, held immediately after the occurrence of the incident, a mitigation plan was put in place to ensure that the safety and wellbeing of our passengers.

Refuelling of wide body aircraft is now performed using bowsers or at remote parking bays. In order to facilitate AirAsia X’s passenger boarding process, a total of 16 buses have been provided by Malaysia Airports to ferry passengers to and from the aircraft. These buses are able to carry 40 passengers each, and two buses run concurrently at ten-minute intervals per trip. This is to minimise any possible flight departure delays arising from this situation. Meanwhile, our customer service officers or CARE ambassadors have also been mobilised to usher passengers, as well as monitor their wellbeing while waiting to board the buses. Passengers can approach our friendly CARE ambassadors for assistance. Extra care is also given to special-handling-passengers such as the disabled and elderly where buses and ambulifts are provided for their convenience.

While the bussing process has been proceeding smoothly, this situation has caused some delay in flight departure time. Malaysia Airports regrets the inconvenience caused to passengers but is currently working together with AirAsia X to fine tune the process further. We would like thank our passengers for their understanding and patience in this matter. We would also like to take this opportunity to remind passengers to check with their airline on their flight schedule and to arrive at the airport early.

Malaysia Airports would like to assure passengers that we will not compromise on the safety of our passengers and airport users. As such, a rectification plan is already underway whereby it involves three stages:

1) Prerequisite stage - fuel recovery, excavation works and pipeline inspection.

2) Pipe Rectification stage – pipe repair/replacement and pavement repair works

3) Testing and Commissioning stage

These three stages are crucial in ensuring the integrity of the fuel pipeline and is estimated to take one and a half months. A more accurate timeline for the rectification work will be available and communicated accordingly after the completion of the first stage where a full assessment of the damage will be done.
