KUALA LUMPUR - Malaysia Airports concludes its six-month long Licence to Win shopping campaign during a thrilling and glamourous Bond-inspired finale that was held at the W Hotel, Kuala Lumpur this evening. The nationwide campaign that was launched in July last year offered more than RM20million worth of prizes including an Aston Martin DB11 as the main giveaway. Malaysia Airports’ senior general manager of commercial services Mohammad Nazli bin Abdul Aziz and general manager of commercial services Hani Ezra Hussin together with the official partners representatives in this campaign; Boost, Go Shop, Malaysia Airlines and Maybank as well as celebrities Awal Ashaari, Scha Alyahya and Marion Caunter were present at the event that was themed around the famous double-zero-seven British Secret Agent that everyone loves.

The Licence to Win Airport Shopping Campaign received an overwhelming response with more than 200,000 entries with contest sales receipt totalling more than RM150million - surpassing last year’s achievements by 23% and 12% respectively.  The contest sale receipts averaged to a total spend of RM5.1million with more than 7,000 entries per week, an increase of 15% and 35% respectively compared to 2017. The entries peaked the highest in August 2018 with more than 45,000 entries and the highest monthly sales captured totalling up to RM34million. According to Nazli, “This robust growth shows huge potential for airport retail and ever-evolving trend of airport shopping on-the-go. Beyond just numerical value, the campaign has contributed in enlivening our airport guest’s experience.”

Malaysia Airports has also recently embarked on a “Happy Guests, Caring Hosts” service culture in its bid to become a service leader and for this, offering a diverse selection of commercial offerings is vital in providing passengers with a joyful experience at our airports. “In view of this, on-going initiatives such as Commercial Reset Strategy (RESET) which will dynamically revamp the retail spaces at all our international airports, will transform these airports from simply a transportation hub to more of a lifestyle and shopping destination. The RESET will further strengthen, uplift and enrich the airport experience for all guests and travellers,” Nazli said further.

The Licence to Win’ shopping campaign was an eagerly anticipated international event with 46% non-Malaysian participants contributing the contest sales receipt that totalled up to RM82million.  There was an increase in total entries of more than 112,000 by Malaysians and 95,000 by international passengers representing an increase of 21% and 27% respectively. The top three countries were Malaysia with RM70million, China with RM50million and Indonesia with RM8million. Year on year, this annual shopping campaign has proven to be a great success for Malaysia Airports and the organisation plans to continue combining enticing reward spend and diverse retail offerings as an irresistible proposition for travelers and airports guests to shop at the airports. In fact, the shopping campaign held the year before in 2016, featuring a luxurious car, the Lamborghini Huracan Spyder as the grand prize and all-expenses paid trips for the consolation prize winners was also touted as a huge success.

The Licence to Win shopping campaign was rolled out at 5 international airports – KL International Airports, Penang International Airport, Kota Kinabalu International Airport, Langkawi International Airport and Kuching International Airport with the main aim of rewarding our travellers and airport guests who shopped at the retail outlets. With just a minimum purchase of RM250, travellers stood a chance to win cool prizes worth over RM20million that included the grand prize of an Aston Martin DB11, Private Jet Ride, Private Yacht Cruise and 5-Stars Accommodation at The Datai, Langkawi, monthly prizes and instant reward vouchers.
